Ecosystem based adaptation (EbA) involves activities to increase resilience and reduce the vulnerability of communities to climate change. Adapting to variability and hazards brough by climate and human activities requires promoting EbA projects, focusing on biodiversity and ecosystem services can benefit vulnerable communities. A few examples of EbA approaches are wetlands management and conservation, coastal and river restoration, and enhancing governance of natural resources, among others. The core of every EbA based project/programme is to contribute to improve livelihood opportunities of vulnerable communities while maintaining and enhancing surrounding ecosystems.

Ecosystem Based Adaptation Approach to Maintaining Water Security in Critical Water Catchments in Mongolia

Mongolia - Asia-Pacific

Mongolia is highly vulnerable to extreme weather events including droughts, flash flooding and harsh winters. In addition, unsustainable agriculture and development practices are accelerating the deterioration of the country’s land and water resources and associated ecosystem services. The project will target two eco-regions, the Altai Mountain/Great Lakes Basin and the Eastern Steppe, and aims
