Mexico City, November 5, 2010 – The Chair of the Adaptation Fund Board, Mr. Farrukh Iqbal Khan (Pakistan) and the Secretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights of Mexico, Ambassador Juan Manuel Gomez Robledo, signed a letter agreement on the hosting of the 12th meeting of the Adaptation Fund Board, to be held in Cancun from December 13 – 15, 2010.
The meeting will take place at the premises of the Universidad del Caribe, graciously offered by the Mexican Government.
This will be the first time the Adaptation Fund Board meets outside of Bonn, Germany, the headquarters of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The Adaptation Fund is the only financial mechanism which allows direct access to finance concrete climate change adaptation projects and programs based on the needs and priorities of developing countries. The Fund accepts proposals from accredited national and multilateral implementing entities that have demonstrated to meet approved fiduciary standards.
At its 12th meeting, the Adaptation Fund Board will discuss several project proposals submitted for funding, and the accreditation of further implementing entities, among other matters. The Board will also engage in a dialogue with representatives from the civil society at the end of the meeting.
