VIDEO: Building Resilience to Climate Change among Vulnerable Communities in Costa Rica
The Adaptation Fund together with Fundecooperación para el Desarrollo Sostenible is empowering small farmers in Costa Rica with climate-smart and resilient methods to adapt to floods and droughts. The project is also restoring marine ecosystems and managing coastlines sustainably, as well as improving water and food security among vulnerable farmers. The project is empowering local stakeholders, indigenous communities and fostering national and local partnerships in the process. The Fund and Fundecooperación further innovated a successful virtual project monitoring mission in August to visit 10 project areas across the country, which they normally wouldn’t have been able to get to all in person. Many of the project outcomes have been exceeding expectations, and the project serves as a potential adaptation model for the country and beyond.
