Beyond the seawall- Chesko’s story
Rising sea levels and unpredictable weather events affect communities living along Tanzania’s 1,400 kilometre-long coast.
Chesko has worked for 18 years unloading coconuts that arrive each day on small boats, in Pangani District located in the Tanga region of Tanzania.
Pangani is particularly vulnerable to high-tides and flooding, with some of its populated areas lying no more than half a metre above sea level. Chesko and his friends are not strangers to the problem.
The project is funded by the Adaptation Fund and implemented by UNEP and UNOPS.
